bash: Checking a port number

Ever needed to check if a given port number is valid in bash? It’s harder than it looks because if you accept any input from the user, you can’t use declare -i since it spews errors and aborts functions if the input is malformed.

English in IIS thread

Two ways to improve OS-X…

I found this excellent article, Mac OS X SSD tweaks by Ricardo Gameiro, and have stolen two of the ideas for my non-SSD MacBook Pro laptop. I’ll cover all three, though, since I don’t agree with his hibernation trick.
